What's Hot!
Protect
Arizona NOW founder and Chairman, Kathy McKee, expresses her group’s
outrage at
both Governor Napolitano’s delay in signing the proclamation enacting
Proposition 200, as well as Attorney General Terry Goddard’s delay in
sending
the request for preclearance of Proposition 200’s voting portions to
the Department
of Justice. States McKee, “Their delay
was obviously to give our opponents more time to file their lawsuit and
get an
injunction against Prop 200 that was filed yesterday.
Here we are 29 days after the election, and these two very
unabashed opponents to Proposition 200 expect the public to believe
there was
some kind of valid purpose behind their refusal to do their jobs. I guarantee you I could have gotten the
preclearance request to the DOJ ready to file in one day – and I sure
don’t
have the army of employees the Attorney General has.
The Governor has known of the likelihood of passage of
Prop 200
for over a year, yet her excuse for not signing the proclamation
“forthwith”
after the Secretary of State’s completion of the convass on November
22, as
required by the Arizona Constitution), was that DES (the welfare
department)
was not ready to implement Prop 200. This is a sad commentary on both
her
ability to govern and her character. If
the people of this state, including the 47% of Hispanics who voted for
Proposition 200, ever forget this treachery, they deserve the arrogant,
unresponsive government we have.” |
