INSTRUCTIONS FOR SIGNATURE GATHERERS rev. 9/15/03 1. You MUST be qualified to register to vote in Arizona to circulate a petition, and actually registered to vote in ARIZONA to sign a petition. If unsure, check with your County Registrar or Voters/Elections Office. 2. Keep all of the sheets stapled together at all times. If they become unstapled, do not allow anyone to sign until you've re-stapled them. 3. Put a checkmark next to the word "Volunteer" in the upper right-hand corner of the signature sheet before you get started. You can copy the initiative on the back, but do not make copies of the petitions/signature sheets. 4. All signatures must be in BLACK INK. 5. All signatures on each sheet MUST be from the same county and that county filled in the blank at the top. The first question asked should be, "Are you registered to vote IN ARIZONA?" Second question, regardless of answer to first question, should be, "What county do you live in"? 6. Signature and Name columns are obvious. - Actual Address column is for STREET ADDRESS (e.g., 201 Main Street). NO P.O. BOXES! -Arizona Post Office Address & Zip Code column is for ZIP CODE only. (e.g., 85001) -City or Town column is just the city name, NO ABBREVIATING. (e.g., Phoenix not PHX, Sierra Vista not SV, Prescott Valley not PV). 7. Married couples sign individually. 8. Be sure each signer fills in each space. No ditto marks-if used, should complete the information yourself. 9. Do NOT place petitions in businesses or leave them unattended, as you (or the business owner) must witness on the back that you were present for each signature. 10. If not registered to vote in Arizona, give them a voter registration form and tell them if they'll complete it then and give you the form to mail, they would be eligible to sign the petition banning the use of taxpayers' funds for most benefits and programs for illegal aliens. If they insist on taking the voter registration form with them, do not let them sign the petition. If they give you the completed voter registration form back, be sure you take/mail it to the election office right away. Then see if they're interested in signing the petition. 11. Most people don't want a full explanation of the initiative. You can tell them it will require proof of citizenship to register to vote (currently registered voters are grand-fathered in), photo I.D. at the polls to vote, and proof of eligibility for non-federally mandated public benefits. They can also read the full initiative stapled to the petition. PETITION AFFIDAVIT INSTRUCTIONS 1. After your petitions are completed, you will need to sign the affidavit on the back in the presence of a notary public. Please do NOT sign the back until a notary is present to witness your signature. You must include your address. 2. Please turn in petitions in a timely manner (at least monthly). Unless your area coordinator has advised you differently, please mail the completed/notarized petitions, making certain the sheets are still stapled together to: PROTECT ARIZONA NOW 2004 PO Box 11000 Glendale, AZ 85318-1000 Questions: Call 623.225.7122, or Contact us. |
